Gro – Ollie the Owl – Sound & Light Gro Friend
This gorgeous night light and sleep aid will assist both you and your baby to have an enjoyable sleep.
Avoidance of bright light and ‘blue’ range light has been proven to help adults and babies get to sleep, remain asleep and when disturbed red and yellow light helps you get back to sleep.
Ollie provides a lovely soothing environment in the bedroom with his warm glowing tummy.
Right from when you bring your new bundle home from hospital you will appreciate the advantage of having a low level light in your baby’s room when you are called there during the night.
Unlike some night lights Ollie is simple to use even in the semi-dark. All of his controls are hidden inside his wings and feet and the battery compartment is coveted under a velcro closing back panel.
Ollie is perfectly sized for cuddles and is cord free making him portable and easy to take out and about. He is soft and has an inviting fully embroidered safe face and detailing.
Ollie has a Velcro loop so that you can attach him to the out side of your cot, on the cupboard handle or to car seat. Ollie should not be placed into a bassinette or cot with a baby or young child.
Ollie is truly adorable in soft and fashionable neutral nursery colours and the glow from his tummy can be dimmed to three different levels making him perfect for day time naps or night sleeps. The light glows for 30 minutes before automatically turning off.
Ollie is fitted with a voice activated intelligent CrySensor that encourages sleep continuance. Programmed to identify and to react to sharp sounds that may disturb your child and to crying Ollie will begin to play either white static noise or Brahms lullaby (whichever you have pre-chosen) at the appropriate time to calm baby should he/she stir.
When the CrySensor has been set to on comforting sounds play for 20 minutes before automatically switching onto standby mode for the following three hours. If baby disturbs or wakes again during that time, the CrySensor will activate again to help resettle baby.
CrySensor mode can only play white noise and Brahms lullaby.
Ollie plays four soothing sounds that can be used to help sooth and relax your baby or young child and coax them to sleep by him/herself.
For young children having to wind down at the end of the day can be problematic, while for others natural fears take hold when darkness falls. These issues can prevent young children from sleeping. For these children Ollie the Owl is an ideal friend who plays beautiful relaxing sounds.
Ollie’s adjustable volume can be tailored to suit you and your baby and set on high, medium or low. The sounds are: Rainfall, Heartbeat, White noise and Brahms Lullaby.
Each sound/tune will play for 20 minutes before automatically turning off.
Powered by four AA batteries that are stored in a screw in compartment Ollie will stay cool and safe.

Click Ollie’s right wing to activate the Sound and CrySensor; the first click will play a gentle Lullaby the second will play white noise static, both will play for 20 minutes before the CrySensor turns on. Click his left wing to activate the soothing sounds of Heartbeat or Rainfall which will play for 20 minutes before turning off each automatically.
Squeezing his right foot will turn on his lights in his tummy with the option of four levels of brightness. His left foot changes the volume and activates it in silent mode.
Which sounds are available when the CrySensor is activated?
The CrySensor is available on Ollie’s right wing and plays the Lullaby or White Noise traditional static. The Heartbeat and Rainfall sounds are activated from Ollie’s left wing but do not have the CrySensor facility.
What is the CrySensor?
The CrySensor is an innovative development which allows Ollie to listen out for noises made by baby, when the CrySensor is activated Ollie will automatically start playing his soothing sounds and help settle your child back to sleep. Ollie can hear all noises within a room but is specifically programmed to react to crying or sharp sounds which may disturb your child.
How does it work?
Having activated the CrySensor, Ollie will listen out for your little one. Ollie quietly listens for the next three hours. Should he hear your child stir within that time then the chosen sound (lullaby/static) will play for 20 minutes. He will then go back to listening. Every time he hears your child stir, he will activate for 20 minutes and start his listening count for another three hours. If your child is having a difficult evening, Ollie may continuously play the chosen sound from one 20 minute play time to the next and continue playing until your little one is settled.
What happens if you press a button when Ollie is in CrySensor mode?
If you press any other buttons whilst in CrySensor mode, you will turn off the sensor and Ollie will stop listening.
How do I check that the CrySensor is working?
If you wish to check the CrySensor, then activate it using the instructions and clap next to Ollie to hear him activate your chosen sound.
Where should I put Ollie?
Ollie should be placed near your baby so your baby can see and hear him and so he can listen in CrySensor mode. Toys should not be placed on the mattress inside a sleeping baby’s cot so use Ollie’s Velcro loop to attach to the cot or place him on furniture nearby.
How do I turn Ollie off?
If three hours passes without Ollie hearing your child stir, the CrySensor will automatically turn off. You can use the master power switch to turn Ollie off completely.
How many light levels are there on Ollie?
There are four light levels including no light, all of which can be activated via Ollie’s right foot.
How do I adjust the volume?
The volume control can be adjusted on Ollie’s left foot.
How do I activate the sound?
The sounds can be activated via Ollie’s wings.
How do I know when the batteries run out?
The level of light becomes weaker and the sound played becomes less clear.
How do I conserve battery?
Use Ollie on just the sound functions if light is not required.
What sounds can Ollie hear?
The CrySensor works best when Ollie is less than 1 metre from your child. When noise levels within 1m reach 50dBA, Ollie will be activated and play your chosen sound.
How do I make Ollie’s CrySensor more sensitive?
If you want Ollie to react more quickly to noises when in listening mode then ensure there is no barrier between your child and Ollie. For Moses baskets with solid sides have Ollie higher than the side of the Moses basket and ensure his tummy is facing the Moses basket.
How do I make Ollie’s CrySensor less sensitive?
If Ollie is too sensitive move further away from the child.
How do I care for Ollie?
Ollie is a surface wash only toy due to his electrical components. Please do not put him in the washing machine or tumble dryer. Just wipe him over with a damp cloth. Do not use any chemicals as it may affect the fabrics or transfer to your child’s environment.
Can you use rechargeable batteries?
Yes, you can use rechargeable batteries. Do not mix old and new batteries. Rechargeable batteries must be removed from the toy before being charged.
Can I put Ollie the Owl in the cot with my baby?
The Lullaby Trust recommends having a clear cot for your baby with no bumpers, toys or pillows. Ollie has a secure hanging loop which means he can be hung on the outside of the cot. Ollie can also be placed nearby outside the cot.
What if Ollie does not play sound or light?
You need to firstly check the master power switch is in the ‘on’ position. If it still will not work then check the batteries and replace them as necessary. If you are still experiencing problems then contact The Gro Company customer care team.
Does Ollie need batteries?
Yes, he will need 4 AA batteries – these are not provided with the product.
What age is Ollie suitable for?
Ollie is suitable from birth to soothe a newborn and can be used with your child as they grow. The button placement in wings and feet make it perfect for a toddler to work themselves.
